SCORE // Please Try The Impossible
Museion presents the provocatively-titled “SCORE // Please Try The Impossible” by the collective Codice Ivan, which won the art competition launched last year by Museion, transart and Südtiroler Künstlerbund.
The project, which is now part of Museion’s collection, is being exhibited for the first time in a version reworked for the project room. SCORE explores the concept of conflict through game playing: the visitor is invited to interact with a large table tennis table, and try and play a game. This is no simple feat, however: the net is extremely high.
The net also contains a “symbolic gift” that broadens the meaning of the challenge: a slender, precious filament of byssus - an ancient, virtually extinct sea silk – which acts as a thread binding people and things together. This rare material represents a challenge in its own right, like playing one’s own game or, as we see in the video on show, attempting to climb a “mountain” on one’s path. The work invites the viewer to try and overcome this apparently excessively high net, and attempt the impossible.
Codice Ivan was founded in 2008 by Anna Destefanis, Leonardo Mazzi and Benno Steinegger. Their work mainly focuses on the performing arts/theatre, as well as exploring the use of different formats. In 2009 “Pink, Me & The Roses”, their debut project, received the Scenario Award. Recent pieces include “We Wanna Be Your Happening” (2010), “TANK-TALK” and “GMGS_What the hell is happiness?” which premiered at the theatre event DRODESERA 2011. In 2011 the project SCORE won the TRANSART-SKB-MUSEION-PRIZE, an art award established by transart, Museion and Südtiroler Künstlerbund. Codice Ivan is part of the Fies Factory project.
