European project Art Works! - European Culture of Resistance and Liberation

The computer desktop becomes a “window on the world”, revealing the compromises and contradictions of the period we have lived through in recent months with domestic lockdown on one hand and global participation on the other. This is the theme of About Resistance (interfaced), an installation created by a group of young people at Museion, together with the artist Alessandra Ferrini, as part of the European project “Art Works! European Culture of Resistance and Liberation”. From June 18th onwards the work will be displayed at the Cubo Garutti – Piccolo Museion in the Don Bosco district in Bolzano, together with Solely You It’s Not, a work produced by an Austrian work group and another partner in this European project. To mark the opening of the exhibition, on Thursday June 18th, from 5 to 6.30pm, the young people who took part in the project will interact with the public by offering passers-by a voucher for a drink at the Café Museion. The public will then be invited to walk with the young people from Cubo Garutti to Museion. The project partners and the artist Alessandra Ferrini will also be virtually present via livestreaming.

About Resistance (interfaced) is a journey taken by a group of young people at Museion (Lucia Rose Buffa, Giada Cardillo, Gessica de Oliva, Nicole Fersko, Tomas Grosello, Samira Mosca, Camilla Saiz and Abram Tomasi) along with the artist Alessandra Ferrini. Taking its inspiration from the universal values of Resistance and its historic definition, the work is based on the timeless topicality of this concept in all its various nuances, including that of the current pandemic which has affected the implementation of the project itself. Consisting of a banner and video, the installation depicts the desktop of a computer as a window on the world (the role historically attributed to paintings). This reveals both the compromises and contradictions of the period we are living through with “domestic” lockdown on one hand and global participation on the other.

The Cubo also hosts Solely You It’s Not, a work produced by a group from the town of St. Pölten in Austria with the artist collective of Ruth Anderwald and Leonhard Grond. This work consists of photographic portraits of European women who took part in the Resistance during the Second World War accompanied by a poem written by Hilde Meisel, an Austrian journalist who used her writing to fight the Nazi regime. The work also includes an audio of different voices and languages that repeat the title of the Meisel poem. This first exhibition can be viewed until 02.08.20. Following this, from 04.08 to 17.09, there will be an exhibition of the works from the other countries taking part, namely Croatia and Germany. In line with the project’s exchange concept, the work produced by the Italian group at Museion will be displayed on rotation at museums in the participant countries: MSU in Zagreb, Stiftung wanseeFORUM in Berlin and the Zeithistorisches Zentrum Melk Memorial.
