Kunstschnee / Neve artificiale

What are three snow cannons doing in front of Museion? An oversight? Wrong transport? Obviously not: the cannons are waiting for the right temperatures to be put into action and fire a special “artist’s snow” on the lawns in front of Museion. The project, entitled “Kunstschnee/Artificial snow”, was born from an idea by the artist Philipp Messner (Bolzano, 1975), who intends to bring a very special artificial snowfall colored blue, yellow and red to the city. “The idea was to visualize the concept of artificiality – which with color becomes visible, real. Certainly the performance contains an implicit reflection on the relationship between man, nature and artificiality, but accompanied by a playful aspect” - thus the artist, who hopes that the city interacts with its landscape, built on the tension between the abstraction of color and the physicality of the snow cover. These days any moment could be the right one for Messner’s “artistic snowfall”, which will last several hours. The people of Bolzano are alerted.
