“Displaced Positions”, a new initiative staged by the Dr. Friedrich Teßmann Provincial Library in Bolzano in collaboration with Museion, the Integration and Coordination Service of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Libraries Office, sets out to raise awareness of the preconceptions and prejudice surrounding migration.

Twelve artists from South Tyrol have been invited to create a postcard with the aim of ‘displacing’ a commonly held opinion or position on the issue of migration. A new image will be published every month for a year, and the postcards, which double up as bookmarks, will be given out with every book borrowed from the library. The images can be collected and displayed on a large wall calendar which also has space for noting ideas, events and experiences. Both the calendars and postcards are available free from participating libraries.

The first image, by Gabriela Oberkofler, is entitled “Du riechst gut / Hai un buon odore / You Smell Good”. “Safina Nuh” (Noah’s Ark) is the title of the image by Nicolò Degiorgis: the ark alludes to the inhuman conditions in which many migrants undertake their journeys, and their hope for salvation.

The featured artists are: Julia Bornefeld, Arnold Dall’O, Nicolò Degiorgis, Hannes Egger, Silvia Hell, Saman Kalantari, Brigitte Mahlknecht, Gabriela Oberkofler, Serena Osti, Simon Perathoner, Franz Pichler, Sara Schwienbacher.

Concept: Johannes Andresen, Frida Carazzato, Hannes Egger.
