Verena Dengler and Invernomuto are the joint winners of the Museion Prize 1

Verena Dengler (Vienna, 1981) and Invernomuto (Simone Bertuzzi, Piacenza 1983 and Simone Trabucchi, Piacenza, 1982) are the joint winners of the first edition of the Museion Prize (Museion Prize1) for young artists. “The work of both was felt to be equally significant and innovative on the contemporary art scene”: this was the motivation given by the international jury, which convened this morning (27/01) in Museion, for awarding the prize jointly. The jury comprises Beatrix Ruf – Director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Giovanni Carmine – Director of Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, Karola Kraus – Director of the Mumok Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna, and Diana Baldon – Director of Malmö Konsthall (until 2016).

Each of the two winners will receive a prize of € 7,500. The works by Invernomuto (Malù – lo stereotipo della Venere Nera in Italia, 2015 and Tabù, 2016) will join the Museion Collection due to their “bold formal presence and relevance to the current international political and social situation”.
The audience prize goes to Julia Frank for the piece “The body is our general medium for having a world”, 2015.

All the works will be on display in Museion until 12/03/2017.

The exhibition also features additional video footage containing interviews with the individual artists.
