The journey between word and image, sound and poetry continues in the exhibition “Intermedia. Archive of New Writing”

In this new series, we offer you audio and video documents of the works on display. The first concerns a poem read, or rather sung by the persuasive voice of Caetano Veloso. The poem in question is „Dias dias dias”, 1953, by Augusto de Campos.

Caetano Veloso (*1942), a very famous musician, performer and political activist in Brazil, is one of the founders of tropicalismo, a Brazilian movement in which theatre, music and poetry come together. His fellow villager Augusto de Campos (*1931) was one of the fathers of international Concrete Poetry at the beginning of the 1950s, conceived as a contemporary alternative to traditional poetry. The new one is a “verbo-voco-visual” type of poetry in which the verbal dimension is enriched by the dimensions of visuality and sound.

In this 2010 recording Veloso interprets the poem “Dias dias dias” (1953) by Augusto de Campos precisely in this sense. The text of the poem is read, or rather sung, by three voices which are highlighted in the text with three different colours. Through the spatial positioning of the text on the page and the three colors the text becomes an image, while Veloso broadens the starting concept by accompanying the voices with electronic music.
